Mumbai:The Pune Lohagad murder case has taken a significant turn, with police alleging that accused Siya Goyal conspired to kill her fiancé, 24-year-old Ketan Agarwal, because she feared that calling off their engagement and eloping with her partner, Chetan Chaudhary, would bring shame to her family. According to police sources, this was a key motive behind the alleged murder plot.

The case was initially believed to be a trekking accident but was later registered as a murder case after investigators reviewed CCTV footage and gathered additional evidence. Ketan, who returned from the US two years ago after completing his higher education, was engaged to Siya and was scheduled to marry her in November this year.

Ketan died on June 18 after allegedly falling from Lohagad Fort near Pune. Siya initially told his family that he had slipped during a trek, and the case was treated as an accident. However, Ketan’s family expressed suspicion over his sudden death, stating that he was passionate about mountaineering and had experience trekking in mountains and valleys.

Police later reviewed CCTV footage from the fort’s ticket counter and noticed a hooded man following the couple. Investigators found his attire suspicious given the 33°C temperature that day and eventually identified him as Chetan Chaudhary.

According to police, CCTV footage and other evidence indicated that Siya and Chetan had conspired to kill Ketan. During interrogation, Chetan reportedly told investigators that Siya was unwilling to break off the engagement and elope because she feared bringing shame to her family. Police allege that the two subsequently decided to eliminate Ketan and that Siya pushed him from the cliff.

According to information provided by the police, the Agarwal, Goyal and Chaudhary families are involved in business.

Siya (20) is the daughter of Pravin Goyal, who runs a dry fruits and spices business. She was pursuing a B.Com degree and also managing a bakery in the Market Yard area. Chetan (23) was managing his father’s dry fruits and grocery trading business in Market Yard. He is also a cricketer and aspired to play in the Ranji Trophy.

Ketan, the son of Pune-based real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, returned to India two years ago after completing his higher education and began working with his father. His marriage to Siya had been fixed, and the two got engaged in February. The wedding was scheduled to take place in November.

Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have been arrested in connection with the case. Following their arrest, they were produced before a court, which remanded them to police custody until June 29.
