Representational Image- Liquor death— DC File

BHOPAL: A five-member committee headed by deputy collector of Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh has been constituted to probe the alleged liquor deaths reported in a village in Dewas district in the state.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within 15 days, officials said on Sunday.

The move comes in the wake of the Opposition Congress alleging a hooch tragedy in the village of Chandana in Dewas district in the current month, leaving several people dead.

The party alleged that the deaths occurred due to consumption of spurious liquor.

The local excise commissioner Deepak Saxena however denied the allegations, saying that a test of the liquor of the particular batch number sold in the local outlet has confirmed that the alcohol was not spurious.

The local administration has clarified that deaths of ten people were reported from the village between October one to October 15.

However, some of these deaths were due to natural causes.

Bodies of two deceased were sent to the hospital for postmortem and the viscera reports were awaited, the local administration said.
