President Murmu To Undertake Submarine Sortie On Dec. 28

NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu will undertake a sea sortie in a submarine from Karwar Harbour on December 28, becoming only the second head of state to do so. Former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam had earlier undertaken a submarine sortie on February 13, 2006, at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Murmu, 67, is also the first President of India to have flown in two frontline fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force. She flew a Rafale aircraft on October 29 this year and undertook a sortie in a Sukhoi-30 MKI in 2023.

The submarine sortie is scheduled during her four-day visit to Goa, Karnataka and Jharkhand beginning December 27. According to a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President will depart for Goa on the evening of December 27.

On December 28, she will carry out the submarine sortie from Karwar Harbour. On Monday, Murmu will attend the centenary celebrations of Ol Chiki at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and also address the 15th convocation of NIT Jamshedpur.

On December 30, the President will address the Antarrajyiy Jansanskritik Samagam Samaroh, Kartik Jatra, at Gumla in Jharkhand.
