President Droupadi Murmu is coming on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh on Thursday to take part in different cultural events in the state.

She is scheduled to release a Rs 200 commemorative coin and a special postal stamp marking the 200th birth anniversary of Mata Sahib Hasi Devi, the fifth spiritual head of Shadani Darbar, here on Thursday.

She is also scheduled to attend the Nuakhai festival, being organized at Indoor Stadium at Raipur, a celebration marking the new harvest, on the day.

She is scheduled to visit Maa Danteshwari shrine at Jagdalpur, headquarters of Bastar, on Friday.

Later, she will attend the Muria Durbar at Jagdalpur and interact with the heads of different tribal groups of Bastar.

Muria Durbar marks the conclusion of the 75-day Bastar Dussehra, billed as the world’s longest festival.

Representatives of different tribes in Bastar assemble at the Muria Durbar, an age-old tradition dating back to 18th century, to voice the local concerns before the administration, for redressal.

The tribal chieftains used to take up their matters before the local ruler of the former princely state of Bastar and the local administration at the Muria Durbar in the pre-Independence era.

Post-Independence period, the tradition continued with the local district administration replacing the ruler to listen to their issues.
