Shashi Tharoor, the Congress party's ‘global citizen’ MP has joined the viral red flag-green flag social media trend in his latest reel on Instagram, enhancing his connectivity with the gen Z and millennial population.

In the video, he was first asked about his opinion on people bragging about never following the news. He replied with a red flag, saying “You gotta know what’s going on in the world.”

Further, he is asked what is his opinion on persons saying they are apolitical, he waves a red flag, and says, “If you are not interested in politics, you’re forgetting that politics is interested in you.”

“Politics is making decisions that affect your life everyday, that reduces your options, and widens your options, and gives you possibilities that affect everything in your life and future, how can you just say you are apolitical?” he asks.

When asked about his take on somebody disagreeing on your political views, he waves a green flag, and says “That’s okay, I respect their opinion. Let people explain their disagreement.”

Asked about judging someone by who they vote for, Tharoor showed both red and green flags together, and clarified his position that “Who you vote for shows what thoughts you've given, but at the same time the person is much more than their political preference.”

“So if you judge them only by their vote, you’re being unfair to them. But not judging them by their vote at all is saying that you are not taking something important into account,” he adds.

The final question asked in the reel, on saying both sides are equally bad during an election, he replies “Many people say that, I can’t blame them for sometimes feeling that way. I would counteract and say my side isn’t that bad and explain why.”

Shashi Tharoor MP represents Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency of Kerala. He is also the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs.
