New Delhi/Kevadia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the politics of appeasement is the largest hurdle in the development journey of India.

Referring to the Assembly elections in five states in November and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Prime Minister cautioned against politics and political parties that, for “selfish interests”, indulge in anti-social and anti-national activities.

Addressing a gathering at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, after paying floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary which is celebrated as National Unity Day, Modi pointed out that those indulging in appeasement politics also turn a blind eye towards terrorism and stand with the enemies of humanity. He warned against such thinking, which endangers the unity of the country.

Modi mentioned that in the last nine years, India’s internal security has faced challenges on multiple fronts and credited the security forces with thwarting the enemy’s inimical attempts. He claimed that under his government, the enemies of the country are not able to succeed like they did in the past.

Noting that the next 25 years of this century are the most important period for the country, Modi said, “There came a period of 25 years preceding the country’s independence during the last century when every Indian exhausted themselves to achieve independence. Now we are faced with the ‘Amrit Kaal’ opportunity of the next 25 years to work for a prosperous India. We have to achieve every goal with the inspiration of Sardar Patel,” he said.

Slamming the appeasement politics, Modi said, “The biggest hindrance in our development journey is the politics of appeasement. The last many decades in India have witnessed the fact that appeasers never see terrorism, its horrors and its monstrosity. The appeasers do not hesitate to stand side by side with the enemies of humanity.”

The Prime Minister said that the country will be able to achieve its development goals only if it remains alert about these hindrances. “Efforts to maintain the unity of the country should not be abandoned, even for a moment. We have to continuously live the mantra of unity and contribute continuously to realise it,” he said.
