Hyderabad: There appears to be a complete lull in the Congress camp ahead of Congress TS incharge Manickam Tagore’s review meeting on the Munugode bypoll this week.
Not only most of the star campaigners, nearly all of the senior leaders who have been named mandal incharges have barely visited the constituency in the last 20 days.
While the party's candidate, Palvai Sravanthi, has stepped up her door-to-door campaigning in recent days, some of the top leaders who are mandal incharges, such as PCC chief, A. Revanth Reddy (Samsthan Narayanpur), Shabbir Ali (Chendur), Damodar Raja Narasimha (Nampally), V. Hanumantha Rao (Gattuppal), and others, visited the mandal only once that too in the last week.
According to party sources, while the BJP and the TRS are attempting to entice voters in various ways, the party's "half-hearted efforts" are undermining the efforts of ground-level workers, despite the formation of booth-level committees in several clusters.
“Most of the top leaders have attended at least one of the meetings, but the aggressive approach is lacking. Those who are pushy and frequently seen in the constituency are the MLA ticket aspirants from other districts for the 2023 elections. They are doing everything they can to please the high command,” a party spokesperson said.
Party cadre believes that the presence of star campaigners and senior leaders would provide a morale boost to the ground workers.
