HASSAN: JD (S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda will focus on leading his party to victory in Assembly polls scheduled for May 12 before responding to calls for unity among secular parties.

“I will confine myself to state politics till May 18, and only after completion of polls in the state, I will take a call on the invitation to join all secular parties to defeat communal forces in the country,” he told the media here on Thursday, adding “I will ask the voters bless my party to come to power in the state. Let voters decide. I will undertake an intensive tour of taluks wherever my presence is required and to seek voters for JDS.”

He said there was no confusion in the party with regard to distribution of tickets.
The former prime minister said his party would maintain equidistance from both national parties-the BJP and Congress even as he maintained that he would react to the invitation by leaders such as  Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee on the need for all secular minded parties to unite and save democracy.
