BJP-JDS stage joint protest over Cauvery water in Karnataka

BENGALURU: Alliance partners Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal Secular on Wednesday staged a joint protest in Bengaluru criticizing the release of River Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu by the Congress led State Government.

From the BJP, former Chief Ministers-B.S. Yeddyurappa and D.V. Sadananda Gowda participated along with State BJP chief Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLAs while JDS leader and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, MLAs and MLCs joined the protest staged infront of Mahatma Gandhi statue.

Addressing the gathering, BJP leader and former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa stated that BJP and JDS would extend support to the people in their struggle against release of water to Tamil Nadu and warned that State Government to initiate remedial measures over release of Cauvery water or else the State Government should own up the responsibility over the deterioration in law and order if any in coming days.

He accused the Congress led State Government of colluding with the DMK ruling Tamil Nadu and released water to render “injustice” to the State. Yeddyurappa accused the State Government of betraying the people’s trust.

Speaking to the protesters, JDS leader and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy accused the State Government of stumbling in taking up the River Cauvery case and also alleged that the State Government has let down the interests of farmers.

BJP’s former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Nail Kumar Kateel and others spoke.
