Hyderabad: The drawing of lots for the allotment of the vacant 3,716 Rajiv Swagruha apartments in Bandlaguda and Pocharam began. As part of the exercise, the ownership of 1,413 flats in Pocharam was decided through this process.

The State government announced in May 2022 that Rajiv Swagruha Flats at Bandlaguda and Pocharam would be sold to interested parties at a fixed price. Online applications were accepted from May 12 until June 14. HMDA received 39,082 applications in total for 3,716 apartments.

The prospective owners, who were not notified of the draw's location, were in the dark. While the HMDA held the programme at B R Ambedkar Open University, some of them made it to Saroornagar stadium and other locations.  “I reached this place after being informed that the draw of lots will be organised here. When we called the HMDA officials, they promised to send us the location address via SMS, but we didn’t receive it,” said a prospective buyer on condition of anonymity.

While media was prohibited inside, the proceedings, which went on until 7.30 pm, were live streamed on Facebook and other platforms. According to some prospective buyers, the HMDA conducted the proceedings without a functional sewerage system, parking, or occupancy clearance from the GHMC. Barring the 3 BHK deluxe flats, the drawing of lots for Bandlaguda apartments will be conducted on Tuesday.

The details of allottees will be available on the websites of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) (www.hmda.gov.in) and Housing (www.swagruha.telangana.gov.in).
