HYDERABAD: Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress will stage protests at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park on November 27 and 28 to put pressure on the government to expedite paddy procurement in the state. The Congress has been conducting different programmes, including rallies and protests in mandal and district headquarters across the state. ‘Vari Deeksha’ (paddy protest) will be conducted from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A. Revanth Reddy, Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other senior leaders will participate in the protest. The party took up a series of agitation programmes to pressurise the state and Central governments to intensify paddy procurement.

Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao should react to the plight of paddy farmers. He said a farmer, Rajaiah of Adloor Yellareddy village in Kamareddy district, died at a paddy purchasing centre on Thursday. Revanth Reddy took to social media to question the delay in paddy procurement. “How many farmers will die due to delay in paddy procurement and when will the Chief Minister take action on the issue?” he tweeted on Friday.
