Hyderabad: Hours after BJP leaders filed complaints against the Karimnagar police, Chief Secretary A. Shanti Kumari ordered the transfer of Karimnagar collector and district electoral officer B. Gopi, and police commissioner L. Subba Rayudu following directions from the Election Commission.

Several complaints have been filed before the Election Commission in connection with alleged negligence and the biased attitude of Gopi and Subba Rayudu. The police had failed to take action after miscreants attacked the residence and office of Karimnagar MP and BJP general secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the complaints said.

BJP Election Commission affairs committee chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy filed a fresh complaint on Friday alleging that an accident had occurred because the police had not taken precautions to divert traffic.

He said that on October 20, a huge crowd had gathered near the Mahashakti temple to participate in the Bathukamma festival. Prior to that, a request was made to the local traffic police for bandobast in view of the large gathering, to control traffic and provide security to women. The police did not do the needful.

A two-wheeler rider, coming on the wrong side of the Karimnagar-Jagtial Road, rammed his vehicle into Gaddam Deekshith who suffered serious injuries.

"Following the incident, the police who failed to prevent miscreants resorted to a lathi charge on devotees under Town ACP Nagender, under the direction of police commissioner Subba Rayudu. The situation could have been managed by taking effective steps but the lathi charge clearly appeared to be a pre-mediated act," Shashidhar Reddy alleged in his complaint.
