Sparks fly in Congress, PAC meet postponed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Congress leaders engaged in a blame game over the debacles in Konni and Vattiyoorkavu, KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran has taken a tough stand and asked them to end their open outbursts like in a ‘market place.’

The KPCC also postponed the Political Affairs Committee meeting scheduled on Sunday to Wednesday to take stock of the outcome.

While Adoor Prakash has hit back at the Pathanamthitta DCC, K. Muraleedharan said the collective leadership had failed in Vattiyoorkavu. A source close to Muraleedharan told DC that the CPM, apart from trading votes with the RSS, had allegedly bought the votes of the Congress youths in Vattiyoorkavu by promising them that those involved in the Sabariamla namajapa rally will be discharged from various cases.

Youth MLA V. T. Balram said that senior leaders should have stepped down for the sake of youngsters.

“Senior leaders excel in organisational capacities, but they may not fare well in electoral politics. The CPM fielded young candidates and scored,” said Balram.

The PAC meeting was postponed owing to the inconvenience of Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and former KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran, it is said. The liaison committee of the UDF will be held on Monday to discuss the situation.
