HYDERABAD: TPCC senior vice-president Mallu Ravi wrote to Union textiles minister Piyush Goyal against merging the National Jute Board (NJB), Hyderabad, with its Kolkata unit. If the decision went through, it would ruin the families that depend on jute manufacturing units in the Telugu states, he said.

Ravi said Andhra Pradesh was the fourth largest jute producer in the country and 90 per cent of all manufacturers were women who ran medium and small micro entreprises (MSMEs). These manufacturers were directly and indirectly dependent on the National Jute Board, Hyderabad, for training and exhibition sponsorships, submission of bills and revenue of jute raw material banks.

"The Union government has taken a decision to merge the Hyderabad National Jute Board with Kolkata. I request the government to drop the decision and help the Telugu people and jute raw manufacturing units in both Telugu states," Ravi said.
