Meet on health insurance begins in Chennai

The conference saw the participation of 40 delegates.

Chennai: ‘Bonne Sante 16’ a two-day international conference, organised by the state government, to discuss the role of health insurance in universal health coverage, was inaugurated on Thursday.

The conference is aimed at serving as a way forward to improve the quality of services in an accessible, affordable and easy way, with international standards, to all sections of society.

The conference saw the participation of 40 delegates, including those from other countries, and officials from both the state and Central governments to discuss various dimensions for enriching the available schemes.

‘The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme is one of the flagship programmes of CM J. Jayalalithaa. United India Insurance Company has partnered with the Government for the same,” said health minister Dr C. Vijaya Baskar.

Over 1.58 smart cards have been issued so far and 751 hospitals, including 159 government hospitals, have been empanelled as of now, he said.
