Parties demand truth on Karur money seizure

Chennai: The Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu including the BJP, DMK and the Communist Party of India (CPI) have demanded that the Election Commission (EC) disclose the exact amount seized from a godown in Karur, recently, though the EC claimed that Rs 4.77 crore besides Rs 1 lakh worth dhotis and sarees were seized by the officials there.

The parties alleged that several crores of rupees were transported to some other place after information about the raid was passed to the businessman Anbunathan by some officials, but finally Rs 4,77 crore was seized from his house and Rs 10.33 lakh from his godown.

Meanwhile, State Chief Electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni said Rs 4.77 crore was seized in Karur and the EC has ordered a probe into it.  “The ambulance found on the premises did not belong to the government. About Rs 1 crore worth dhotis and sarees were also seized besides the cash,” he said and added that a detailed probe is on into the seizure of money in Karur. He said so far Rs 42 crores have been seized by flying squads and surveillance teams across the state.
