Andhra Pradesh: BJYM opposes SC status to Dalit Christians

Vijayawada: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state vice-president Ravindra Reddy has criticised the state government for passing a resolution in the Assembly to provide Scheduled Castes (SC) status to Dalit Christians.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, the BJYM vice-president questioned the state government how it could pass a Bill for Centre’s approval when the issue was pending in the Supreme Court and said that no one passed such a resolution in the country on Dalit Christians so far.

Ravindra Reddy blamed Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for coming up with several schemes to dupe the Dalits in the state. He said that at a time when the people belonging to the SC communities were in trouble in getting employment despite having reservations, the resolution to provide SC status to Dalit Christians would encourage religious conversions.  He opined that the resolution was against the ideals of Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

He said that based on a call given by the BJP state president Somu Veerraju against the resolution, they would take up protests state-wide.
