Hyderabad: BRS Malkajgiri MLA Mynampally Hanumanth Rao, who announced his decision to quit the BRS on Friday, sent his resignation letter to party president K. Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday and stated that he was “deeply disappointed with the recent developments.”

Hanumanth Rao is expected to join the Congress along with his son Rohith, for whom he is seeking a ticket from Medak. Speaking to reporters, Hanumanth Rao said that he would contest from Malkajgiri constituency on a Congress ticket.

"There is no democracy or transparency in the functioning of the party and the leadership has ignored the voices and opinions of the grassroots workers and leaders and has taken unilateral decisions without any consensus or consultation," he wrote in the letter to the party president.

Hanumanth Rao cited the change of the party’s name from TRS to BRS and said it was against the wishes of the party rank and file. "The unfruitful attempts to expand into the neighboring states have taken away the focus of the party from the development of Telangana,"  he wrote.

Hanumanth Rao said that he had serious differences with some senior leaders who had been spreading false propaganda against him in the media.

"I cannot continue to be a part of a party that has lost its direction and identity and has become a puppet in the hands of a few power-hungry individuals. I cannot betray the trust and faith of my constituents who have elected with a huge majority," he wrote.
