Chennai: As the ruling AIADMK completed one year in office on Tuesday, leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin, TNCC president S. Thirunavukkarasar and PMK founder S.Ramadoss sought the removal of the ‘corrupt regime’ at the earliest, charging it with failing to protect state autonomy and sacrificing state’s rights.
“In  a state known for its strong voice for state autonomy, the state rulers have become puppets of the centre”, Stalin said giving a list of failures of the one-year-old government. Union ministers are conducting review meetings at the secretariat and the all the ministers are under the centre’s control, he said.

People are seething with anger and the government will be changed in a democratic manner, he predicted. “The only question prevailing now is how long the corrupt and inactive government will last since people are longing for change of regime”, Stalin said, in a letter to cadre in party organ ‘Murasoli’.

Citing the election manifesto of the AIADMK government, he said promises like employment for one member of each family, mobiles for housewives, linking of rivers, waiver of education loans and increasing individual income of farmers had not been fulfilled. The Assembly had not been convened even to discuss the demands for grants and democracy had been strangulated, he charged and pointed out that the government debt had risen to Rs. Three lakh crores.

Since, local body elections had not been held on time, basic facilities had not been provided to the people and ministers. Besides, robberies, murders and sexual crimes are on the rise and police are attacking people who are fighting against Tasmac shops instead of protecting the people, he charged.

Ramadoss, echoing the views of Stalin, wanted the removal of the corrupt regime since it had earned the hatred of the people more than any government in the past. The state government had not implemented any major scheme and doing nothing except saving the government. The government under Edappadi K. Palanisami had sacrificed the rights of the states on Cauvery issue, food security and devolution of powers to the state, Ramadoss said.

TNCC president S. Thirunavukkarasar said while the AIADMK had sought about Rs. 39,000 crore for drought relief the Centre had granted only Rs 1,700.The government did not have the courage to raise its voice against injustice of the centre in drought relief and refusal to form Cauvery Management Board, he said. The continuance of the AIADMK government is under question since it had moved away from the people, he added.

Govt moves at tortoise’s speed, may tumble: OPS

Edappadi K. Palanisami government, which is “functioning at tortoise’ speed with 122 legislators,” will topple on its own, claimed former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.

He also flayed the DMK working president M.K. Stalin and said the latter’s “dream of capturing power will never materialise.” Addressing a meeting of his Puratchi Thalaivi Amma faction at Villupuram near here he said the AIADMK had sought and obtained a clear mandate from the people to ensure the continuity of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s rule, in the run up to the 2016 Assembly election. “But her rule is not being dispensed now…A change is imminent if the rulers don’t address the people’s concerns,” Mr Panneerselvam warned and claimed that the “entire AIADMK” was with him.

“They have only 2,417 executive members. With 122 MLAs the government is functioning at the speed of tortoise. It will topple soon. All the AIADMK cadres are with us,” he said.

The former CM alleged that the Edappadi Palanisamy government did not have concern for the people. “The people will teach a lesson to the Edappadi Palanisamy government in the local bodies elections. Our dharma yudham will continue till our demands are met,” Mr. Panneerselvam said.

Pointing out that one hundred days have passed since he had forth the demand for a CBI enquiry into the “mysterious” death of late Jayalalithaa, he said Chief Minister Palanisamy had “remained silent over the issue.”
