Kochi: The all women-managed polling booths set up in each Assembly constituency in the state have witnessed smooth voting and good turnout.

The state has 240 polling booths which were under the total management of women. The women-managed booths had women polling officers and security personnel.

All these booths, set up by the Election Commission as an initiative towards gender equality and women's participation in the electoral process, are well equipped with all basic facilities like drinking water and toilet.

Like normal polling booths, these booths were open for male electorates, but most of the booths were set up in areas where women voters are in majority.

However, sensitive polling booths were kept out of this initiative.

In Ernakulam district, which has Chalakudy and Ernakulam constituencies, had 14 women only polling booths at Perumbavoor, Mattoor, Edathala South, Thattampadi (Kalamassery), North Paravur, Vypeen, Poothotta, Ernakulam, Thrikkakara, Kunnathunadu, Mulanthuruthy, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam.

The Election Commission has also set up model polling booths in all constituencies.
