People’s participation key for success govt scheme: MLA

Warangal: Government chief whip and Warangal West MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar along with mayor Gundu Sudharani inaugurated the ‘Safai Mitra Suraksit Shehar Rally’ on the occasion of World Toilet Day here at Adarshnagar in Hanamkonda on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that people’s participation is more important than any government order in the effective implementation of any scheme of the government. He said that the government has been striving hard to eradicate the usage of plastic since 2010.   

Vinay Bhaskar said that under the leadership of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao and the efforts of officials, the Telangana state achieved a defecation-free tag in the country and received several awards.

He said that people became more aware of various aspects and are actively involved in various programmes such as maintenance of sanitation and cleanliness of the surroundings and cooperating with the municipal staff for transforming Warangal into a healthy city.

The TRS MLA appealed to the people to utilise the services of cleaning the septic tanks by dialling the toll-free number 14420 which was established by the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).

City Mayor Gundu Sudharani said that the GWMC had got the open defecation-free city award three times in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The GWMC is taking several measures intending to supply safe drinking water and to see that every house has a toilet facility by 2030 under the Swachatha Surakshit Shehar programme. As part of it, the GWMC also established around 1020 public toilets for every 1,000 people each and is maintaining them properly.

She appreciated the people of Adarsh Nagar for coming forward for cleaning the septic tanks in their colony and appealed to the people of other colonies to clean the septic tanks in their respective colonies every three years.

Corporator Sada Kiran, former deputy mayor Sirajuddin, chief officer of GWMC Dr Gnaneshwar, MHO Dr Rajesh, Sanitary supervisor Bhaskar and sanitary inspector Bheemaiah were present.
