Khammam: The DCCs have been asked to select party candidates for the local body polls with the consultation of assembly segment coordinators. They were asked to select and field the candidates who were loyal to the party and had winning chances.
Except Madhira, the MLAs from four segments like Pinapaka, Kothagudem, Palair and Yellandu joined the TRS.
Bhadrachalam MLA P. Veeraiah is also set to join the ruling party.
The Congress, however, is not taking their defections as being serious and is making its efforts to get more MPTC and ZPTCs in the elections. The party told the DCCs that it was a good occasion to select committed workers for the party tickets. “With this, the field level leadership will emerge and it is good for the party in the present context,” a Congress leader said.
Kothagudem DCC president and MLA Vanama Venkateswara Rao resigned the DCC post and now, the PCC had asked the Khammam DCC to look after Kothagudem affairs for now.
Pvvalla Durga Prasad, Khammam DCC president claimed that the TRS would face a rout in the local body elections.
He said that the party leaders were showing interest in monitoring the elections and the field level workers would be given a chance and would be fielded.
“Congress will give a big fight to TRS like assembly elections. Shifting of loyalties of MLAs is being considered as ‘ditching’ and the people will respond in the local body elections,” he said.
