Centre too has role: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has alleged  the involvement of the BJP central leadership also in the medical college corruption case.

Mr Balakrishnan told reporters here on Friday that  BJP national president Amit Shah had asked the state leadership to collect Rs 1,200 crore from Kerala. The demand was that each leader should raise a fund of Rs 10 crore, Mr Balakrishnan said.He  alleged that the corruption was of all-India nature. The modus operandi was to collect bribes from 70 medical colleges by  offering to get them sanction from the  Medical Council of India.

“It cannot be taken as just an internal issue of the BJP. The central agencies should conduct a probe into the allegation of high- level corruption taking place with the blessings of BJP leaders. The party  has turned itself into one of  complete corruption,” Mr Balakrishnan alleged.

“What has come out is just the tip of the  iceberg. Whenever they come to power, they indulge  in corrupt activities as proved earlier also,” he said. He pointed out  the corruption charges related to petrol pumps and PSUs during the previous BJP rule at the centre.

The BJP inquiry report  had pointed out that Rs 5.60 crore received as bribes  in the medical college scam was sent to Delhi through hawala money.  A judicial inquiry should also be  held into the corruption charges, he demanded.
