Chennai: Actor Vijayakanth’s DMDK has lost its status as recognised party in Tamil Nadu. The state will now have only two recognised parties ruling AIADMK and opposition DMK, a senior election commission official told DC.

Interestingly, the PMK of S. Ramadoss, which secured 5.3 per cent of votes obtaining, 2300775 votes, still has a chance to emerge as the recognised party in the state if it performs well in the postponed Thanjavur and Aravakurichi elections.

The DMDK, which was the principal opposition after 2011 Assembly elections,  failed to elect two MLAs or get six per cent of the total votes polled in the just  concluded Assembly polls.
