Thrissur: A local leader of the Congress at SN Puram near Kodungallur  was arrested  on Thursday for allegedly obstructing an official engaged in removing the unauthorised campaign posters and flex boards on KSEB electric posts.
As per a complaint submitted by Mr P. Abdul Salam deputy tahsildar,  Mr Kattil Ashokan, 51, who is the mandalam president of Congress at  SN Puram and is also a panchayat ward member, obstructed the election official of a special squad from  clearing unauthorised posters and flex boards at public places  at Vemballur, SN Puram,  on Wednesday noon.

Acting on the complaint of the official, the Mathilakam police arrested  Mr Ashokan and produced him before the JFCM court at Kodungallur, which  later released him on bail. After the arrest, the Congress workers of SN Puram took out a protest march to the police station. Mathilakam police said that another case was registered against the Congressmen for obstructing traffic on Thrissur-Kodungallur highway during the protest.

Congress workers alleged that the election official was removing flex boards from a particular location and that Mr Ashokan had protested against it. But the police said that they had not received any formal complaint in this regard.
