HYDERABAD: As Congress president Sonia Gandhi deposed for nearly two hours before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president and MP A. Revanth Reddy accused the Narendra Modi-led BJP government of carrying out a vendetta against the Nehru-Gandhi family by
misusing central investigative agencies such as the ED.

The Congress leaders and workers marched from the Indira Gandhi statue on Necklace Road to the ED office in Basheerbagh, raising slogans against the BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

They wore black dresses and released black balloons into the sky in protest of the Modi government, alleging that Sonia Gandhi has been deliberately targeted and harassed in unprecedented ways in order to defame the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Revanth Reddy stated that the BJP government was diverting people’s attention away from the rise in fuel prices and the increase in GST by summoning Sonia Gandhi before the ED.

Further, he said the people of Telangana will always support Sonia Gandhi as she granted a separate Telangana state.

Sonia Gandhi, as head of the National Advisory Council during the Congress-led UPA government, was involved in consultations to draft the RTI bill before it was passed by Parliament, according to the TPCC president. “The RTI Act was introduced by the UPA to combat corruption,” he said.

Meanwhile, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka claimed that the BJP government was exerting immense political pressure on the ED and CBI to harass the Opposition party leaders.
