Bengaluru: Sticking to his decision to quit as JD(S) state president, Hunsur MLA A.H. Vishwanath said he will have consider resigning as MLA too in case party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda failed to accept his resignation immediately.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr Vishwanath said there was no question of going back on his decision which had been made clear to Mr Gowda at a meeting on Wednesday.

In the current situation, CM H.D. Kumaraswamy is the right person to lead the party since he has the experience. There are examples of Devaraj Urs and S.M. Krishna heading the party as well as discharging their duty as CMs, he said.

“I did not have the courage to talk directly with Mr Gowda to request him to accept my resignation, So, I am requesting my party supremo to consider my request through the media,” he said. Mr Vishwanath stressed on the need to appoint party workers to various boards and corporations in order to create impression that the party belonged to them. As per the agreement with the Congress, the JD(S) has got 380 director posts but they have not been filled yet.

Besides, the party is yet to fill one vacancy in the Cabinet. In fact, he wanted to work as a minister in the Kumaraswamy Cabinet but his wish remained unfulfilled.

“I reiterate that I am not after power and will not go to the door of any leader seeking a berth,” he said.

Mr Vishwanath felt that in the absence of a separate minister, officials were running the show in the education department. So far, textbooks, uniforms and shoes have not been distributed among many students. The need of the hour is to appoint a minister, he said.
