VCK opposing President candidate with ulterior motive: BJP

On Monday, the saffron party announced the name of Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind as the NDA candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.

Chennai: Accusing VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan of double standards, the BJP  claimed that the VCK leader opposed the NDA presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind with ulterior motives.

Thirumavalavan, who claims to run a party for Dalits and downtrodden people, should actually support Kovind’s candidature, said BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan. “By opposing Kovind, Thirumavalavan has proved that people like him will oppose whatever the BJP does for the sake of opposition. This is bad,” she added.

On Monday, the saffron party announced the name of Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind as the NDA candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.  Dr. Tamilisai claimed that Kovind is the right choice for the country’s top post as president, as besides being a Dalit, he has a good record of serving the country for many years.

Earlier, Thirumavalavan said that opposition parties should not support Kovind just because he is a Dalit. “They should not fall prey to the tactics of the BJP. They should find the right candidate at the earliest,” he had said.

Uma Bharati to hold a meeting on Cauvery issue:
Union water resources minister Uma Bharati will soon convene a meeting of the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to discuss the Cauvery issue and the Cauvery Management Board, Dr Tamilisai informed. She said that the CMB would definitely be set up and the Centre would make efforts in this direction as per the SC directive.

Stalin lacks political diplomacy:
Meanwhile, BJP national secretary H. Raja alleged that DMK working president M.K. Stalin lacks the political diplomacy of his father and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and that becoming Chief Minister is not in his cards.

Speaking to reporters in Sivaganga in the state on Tuesday, Raja claimed that Stalin appeared ignorant of the GST and several issues.
