M Karunanidhi seeks list of poll promises AIADMK fulfilled

The DMK government gave free colour televisions to 1,62,59,526 families and free gas stoves with gas connections to 29 lakh families.

Chennai: DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday listed the election promises fulfilled by his government during 2006 to 2011 and sought details of poll promises implemented by the AIADMK government.

Accusing the AIADMK government of not fulfilling its poll promises for the 2001 and 2011 Assembly elections, he said even the announcements made by the Chief Minister under rule 110 in the Assembly had not been implemented.

Refuting Jayalalithaa’s charge that the DMK had not fulfilled its promise of giving free land to the poor, the DMK chief said his government had given land to 1,79,000 poor farmers. The DMK also implemented the promise of giving rice at Rs 1 per kg and waived crop loans worth Rs 7,000 crore, besides implementing the Cauvery-Guntar link scheme.

Karunanidhi said examination fees for 11 lakh students were waived, Tamil was made as one of the compulsory subjects till class 10, consecrations were done for 4,724 temples and three per cent reservation was given to the Arunthathiyar community.
