Congress declared main Opposition party
Mr Rao said he was hopeful that Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka would contribute to having healthy and meaningful debates in the House.
Hyderabad: Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Sunday declared the Congress as the main Opposition and party legislator Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka as Leader of Opposition in the House.
The Speaker informed the Assembly that since the Congress was the second largest in the House it was being recogned as the main Opposition party. As per the communication received from the Congress Legislature Party regarding Mr Mallu Bhatti’s selection as its leader, he was being named Leader of Opposition, Mr Srinivas Reddy said.
After the announcement, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka .
Mr Rao said he was hopeful that Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka would contribute to having healthy and meaningful debates in the House.
Mr Rao said that the Opposition parties had maintained dignity during Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan’s address to the joint sitting of the Legislature as is done in Parliament during the President’s address.
The Governor’s address to the Council and Assembly is a ceremonious occasion and members must maintain decency, Mr Rao said.
