Ottapidaram registers 72.60 per cent voting

Registering a voters\' turnout of 8.63 per cent in the first two hours of the polling at 9 am.

OTTAPIDARAM: Polling in the by-election for Ottapidaram reserved constituency on Sunday went off peacefully and registered a total polling of 72.60 percent. No untoward incident was reported in the constituency.

Having 2,33,847 voters, Ottapidaram assembly constituency in Thoothukudi district witnessed steady polling in all its 257 polling booths out of which 50 were considered sensitive, a top official told DC here.  

Registering a voters' turnout of 8.63 per cent in the first two hours of the polling at 9 am, the poll percentage registered a steady increase to 25.89 per cent at 11am, 41.89 per cent at 1 pm, 52.17 per cent at 3 pm, 66.77 per cent at 5pm and the final poll percentage at the end of the closing hour was 72.60, which is almost equal to the 72.59 per cent of votes polled in the 2016 general elections to the State Assembly.  

 The assembly segment part of Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency registered 69.06 percent in the Lok Sabha election just a month ago on April 18.
 Except in two booths in Ottanatham and Valasamudram villages, where polling was delayed by around 15 minutes due to EVM fault, polling went off smoothly.
