Hyderabad: The livelihood of over 70 per cent of those contesting the ensuing Assembly elections is their earnings from agriculture apart from salaries they draw as public representatives.

Interestingly, a considerable number of them have revealed that their only income sources are salaries and not from any other activities.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy, minister K.T. Rama Rao, and many other bigwigs have declared in their respective affidavits that their ‘earnings’ are from agriculture. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is contesting from Gajwel and Kamareddy, has been ‘completely involved’ in agriculture. In fact, he also filed income-tax returns (ITRs) through his earnings from agriculture.

Revanth Reddy's profession is agriculture and his main source of income is the salary he draws as an MP.

Of course, there are medical practitioners and advocates who are in the fray, including M. Raghunandan Rao and N. Ramachander (both BJP) and M. Sanjay Kumar (BRS).

While farmers are still facing difficulties due to a lack of facilities, these political leaders have filed ITRs from their agriculture earnings.

Meanwhile, a handful of young women candidates come with impressive educational backgrounds.

In Peddapalli, 27-year-old Dasari Usha, an IIT from Kharagpur, is contesting on the BSP ticket. Similarly, 26-year-old NRI Mamidala Yashashwini, who is contesting as a Congress candidate from Palakurthy has a B.Tech degree.
