HYDERABAD: Veteran Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was trying to erase the legacy of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru while giving a ‘patriot’ status to Veer Savarkar, who had actually worked as a British agent during the independence movement.
Speaking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday, the former Rajya Sabha member said that BJP leaders had systematically ignored real freedom fighters and conspirinng  to honour the likes of Savarkar with the Bharat Ratna. The Congress party will expose the BJP conspiracy, he said.

Rao said that no leader with a BJP ideology had fought for independence.
The former PCC chief said that the BJP government is planning to withdraw reservations in public undertakings with its privatization moves. BJP leaders want only devotees of Lord Rama to stay in a secular country like India.

Rao wondered why no BJP leader had reacted to the Adani controversy.
