Hyderabad: Farmers should hold BRS leaders accountable over unfulfilled promises made in public view, at the Rythu Vedika meetings, TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy said on Sunday.

In a communiqué to the media, Revanth Reddy said, “After having failed to use the Rythu Vedikas for any constructive purpose, the BRS is out to use them for politicking. No country can progress leaving the farmers in the lurch. The sight of farmers hanging themselves or consuming pesticide is heart-wrenching. With the state government having filed its last Budget, the much-vaunted promise to waive loans of farmers has not been kept. It’s become clear now that the government is not keeping its word.”

“The government had promised to waive loans of 31 lakh farmers, to the tune of ₹20,000 crore. The farmers who have been taken for a ride are resorting to suicide. The orders to deposit money to the accounts of farmers, for paddy procured from them, has remained on paper. As of June 15, the government owed farmers '6,800 crore,” the TPCC chief said.

Finding fault with the BRS on the land issue, he said, “The government has even taken back lakhs of acres of assigned lands given by the government. Having failed to give any land to the SCs and STs, the BRS government made a spectacle of distributing documents for four lakh acres of podu lands, when the actual verified beneficiaries are seeking 11.5 acres from across the state.”

Reeling out the list of failed promises, he said, “The government has failed to provide 24 hours power is clear from the log book records at sub-stations. Having been caught lying, the government is panicking and called back all the log books. It failed to provide fertilisers free of cost, as promised.”

“The Centre and the state are apportioning the blame on to one other on buying paddy. The farmers should question them when they visit the Rythu Vedikas,” he said.
