New Delhi: In an effort to oust Narendra Modi-led BJP to come to power again, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has taken it upon herself to play host to all Opposition parties.

There were reports that Gandhi has called a meeting in New Delhi on the day of the results, May 23.

Sources told NDTV that Sonia has stepped in to rebuild a post-poll alliance after the Congress failed to build meaningful tie ups before the elections.

Sources said Sonia has invited DMK chief M K Stalin, her ally in Karnataka Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Deve Gowda, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Uttar Pradesh BSP and SP chiefs Mayawati and Akhilesh.

The UPA chairperson is also trying to get on board TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, BJD’s Naveen Patnaik and YSR Congress’ Jaganmohan Reddy.

However, according to the NDTV report, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been told by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee that there was no need for a meeting before the results. Mamata will skip the meeting, it is known. As is Mayawati.

Due to ill health, Sonia Gandhi did not campaign in the run-up to the elections.
