Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan informed Governor P Sathasivam on Monday that there was no need to impose the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in any part of the state as the law and order situation in the state was very well under control.

The Chief Minister gave a written reply to the Governor in response to the latter forwarding a representation submitted by the BJP demanding imposition of AFSPA in Kannur in view of the political murders.

Mr. Vijayan said in the reply that the government was initiating peace meetings in Kannur and hence there were no murders during the last three months. The present instance could be considered only as an isolated one. The police was initiating stern action against the accused in the recent murder. Two of the accused were already held and the remaining five would be held soon. The vehicle used by the accused was also taken into custody.

The Chief Minister said that the allegations of the BJP that 14 Sangh Parivar activists were killed after the LDF came to power were not factual.

He also said that there was widespread resentment in the state towards BJP’s demand for imposing AFSPA. The excess that the people of Manipur suffered following the imposition of the Act was also recollected by the Chief Minister in his letter to the Governor.
