Karimnagar: BJP leader Etala Rajendar has asked Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao as to who he is afraid of, and why September 17 is not celebrated as Liberation Day in Telangana – the day in 1948 when the Indian Army liberated Hyderabad from the then ruler Nizam and incorporated it to the Indian nation.

“Telangana is the only region in the world that is not celebrating its liberation day because Chandrashekar Rao is not keen on doing this,” he said.

The former health minister who fell out with KCR recently was speaking at a meeting of BJP  mandal leaders at Jammikunta of Huzurabad constituency on Tuesday.

He said Maharashtra and Karnataka that were part of the Nizam’s kingdom along with Telangana region were celebrating the day on a grand scale every year. During the separate Telangana movement, when the state government did not celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day, TRS leaders used to hoist flags at TRS party offices, he pointed out.

"The leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) are showing the gumption to attack the BJP government that has as high as 303 MPs and in power in 18 states. The TRS is going to soon realise what mistake it did by going against the BJP government,” he said.

“People are observing the misdeeds of the TRS government and its anti-people policies. They are ready to take revenge against the TRS government and will defeat the party in the Huzurabad bypoll,” he claimed.

“Don’t think that the people of Huzurabad are quiet and are afraid of the TRS leaders. They are waiting for the issue of election notification. They will chart a new path for the entire Telangana by giving a fitting reply to all the wrong-doings of the TRS party in Huzurabad,” he said.

Etala appealed to BJP leaders to participate in large numbers in the meeting at Nirmal on September 17, which would be attended by Union home minister Amit Shah.

Former MLA Dharma Rao, BJP Jammikunta mandal president Sampath, Gandra Nalini and district vice president Sampath Rao were among those present at the meet.
