Thiruvananthapuram: The AICC has decided to revamp the organisational structure in the state Youth Congress and  hold  elections. Following this,  the meeting called by the ‘I’ group was called off on Monday. YC state president Dean Kuriakose has  remained  in his  post for nearly  four-and-a-half years though elections were supposed to be held every two years.

All-India Youth Congress general secretary Raveendra Das will hold talks with Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala, PCC chief M. M. Hassan and former chief minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday regarding the YC elections.  But the ‘A’ group wants to prolong the existing committee led by Dean Kuriakose as he is trying to set up the state office headquarters at Nanthencode here.  A Congress MLA told DC that even during the term of the previous YC state president P. C. Vishnunath, there were efforts to construct a state office headquarters for the youth wing.

“During Vishnunath’s tenure, there was  a surplus fund of only  Rs 8 lakh which was not enough for the building construction. Recently, when Dean led a state-wide yatra, his committee collected about  Rs 80 lakh. But only Rs 12 lakh is left as the rest was earmarked for  the yatra expenses,”  said the MLA.
