Hubballi: Responding to the demand of leaders like Ramesh Jarkiholi and B Sriramulu to be  appointed Deputy Chief Ministers (DCMs), senior BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Friday came out strongly against the creation of these posts and suggested that all three existing DCMs be removed.

Contending that Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa was strong enough to handle all responsibility in the state government, he said  his other Cabinet colleagues should continue as ministers and work under his leadership.

“Creation of the DCM posts only  puts pressure on the police in matters of security and traffic management.  All cabinet colleagues should perform their duties as ministers for the benefit of the people and work under the leadership of the CM,” he said. Mr Yatnal, who was speaking to reporters in his constituency of Vijayapur, appreciated Mr Yediyurappa's hard work for the victory of the BJP candidates in the recent bypolls and said  the Chief Minister had proved his mettle in the by-elections..

“CM Yediyurappa has become a big source of  strength for the BJP. He has proved that he is capable of delivering the goods. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also given him due respect on seeing the byelection results," he  added.

The BJP leader  questioned the rationale behind creation of the DCM posts, which had no Constitutional standing in his view. While backing the Chief Minister to the hilt, he appealed to him to allot the water resources ministry to North Karnataka to help speedy implementation of its pending irrigation projects.
