Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI), directing it to respond to a petition filed by the Telangana Yuva Shakti (TYS) Party, which is seeking allotment of common symbol for the November 30 Assembly elections.

TYS Party president B. Rammohan Reddy, an advocate, appearing in person argued that the party had been contesting the last few elections. The ECI on October 20 had rejected his application for a common symbol, he said.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe, while dealing with the petition, observed that the petitioner’s contention would be taken into consideration; however, it would be for the Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, the bench issued directions to the ECI to respond to the petition.
