HYDERABAD: The BJP claimed that its challenge to the addition of some 25,000 new names to the voters list in the Munugode constituency had its impact and that the State Election Commission (SEC) had said that around 12,000 applications were not considered.

Speaking to reporters, B. Rachana Reddy, party spokesperson and High Court advocate, said that 1,500 applications for addition to the voters list in the constituency were received from January 1 till end of August, while some 23,000 were received in September and October.

She said the SEC had informed the court that of these, 7,247 were accepted while the others were pending. These have been kept in abeyance until further directions from the court, she said.

“Had we not intervened, then the TRS would have successfully injected 25,000 bogus out-of-station voters into the Munugode list. We have managed to curtail this action. Had we not taken up the issue, then the TRS would have succeeded in influencing the outcome of the election through these new voters,” she said.
