THRISSUR: The victory of  LDF candidate Mohammed Mohsin  from Pattambi  in the Assembly elections is  a sign of  the good things to come, according to Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU)  president Kanhaiya Kumar.  “Mohsin’s win  has a lot of positives for the youth in Kerala,”  Mr Kanhaiya Kumar,  who  had campaigned for Mr Mohsin, his friend  in the  JNU,  told DC.

DC met  Mr Kanhaiya Kumar at Ramanilayam Government Guest House here prior to his address at a students’ session at EMS Smrithi, Sahithya Akademi Hall, on Monday afternoon.   He was in the midst of  the activists of AISF and  AIYF, CPI leaders and his diehard fans when this correspondent spoke to him.

Referring to the report that the video clippings of JNU event were found to be authentic, he  said that the sources from where the news came did not have any authenticity. “If they have proof of anti-national slogans shouted in JNU, let them prove it in the court with these pieces of ‘evidence.’  The matter is sub judice and I have full faith in the judicial system. The BJP national executive meet in Allahabad  in UP and the upcoming elections in the state need to be read along with such a news suddenly coming up in the media,” he said.

The BJP now wanted to reactivate  the JNU ‘anti-national sloganeering’ allegations and Dadri incident ahead of UP elections, Mr Kanhaiya said. “I have two more years to complete my PhD on the topic ‘Social transformation in South Africa’ and as a student my research is my first priority. After completing it, I wish to take up teaching. But, I will still be an activist,” he said.  The Modi government needs to focus more on public educational  institutions, he added.
