Modi invokes names of Telugu icons

Jagan recalled names of three legends from north coastal Andhra region in his speech. The people acknowledged them with emotive reverence

VISAKHAPATNAM: Local flavour wafted through the public meeting at Andhra University grounds here on Saturday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy invoking names of Telugu icons, drawing huge rounds of applause from the capacity crowd.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his speech wishing the people in Telugu and saying: “I came to Andhra Pradesh last time for the 125th birth anniversary of Viplava Veerudu Alluri Seetharama Raju. Now, I am here to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for various development activities.”


The PM showered praises on people of Andhra Pradesh for their mingling nature and excelling in various fields. He appreciated people of Andhra for their nature of getting along with everyone and making their presence felt across the globe.


CM Jagan, on his part, recalled names of three legends from north coastal Andhra region in his speech. The people acknowledged them with emotive reverence. 


First, the Chief Minister called the name of balladeer Vangapandu and quoted his famous song Em Pillado, Eladaam Vasthava, drawing praise from the audience. Next, he recalled Sri Sri, the revolutionary poet, quoting his most famous verse Vasthunnai Vasthunnai Jagannadha Ratha Chakralu, which indicates ushering in of imminent change.

It was then the turn of Gurajada Appa Rao and his ever-inspirational Desamante Matti Kadoyi, Desamante Manushuloi.

While stressing on the three icons belonging to Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, the CM also compared the huge crowd present at the venue to the sea and its waves, once again drawing huge applause.
