Prayagraj: BJP president Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other leaders took a holy dip in the river Ganges on Wednesday during the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj.

Wearing a saffron dhoti, the leaders of the BJP offered their prayers at Sangam, the holy confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati.

Followed by the ‘snan’ Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath also performed an ‘aarti’ at Triveni Sangam.

Amit Shah's visit is closely anticipated with the demands by various right-wing groups to bring in a law for the early construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

On multiple occasions, the BJP chief has affirmed his party's commitment to build the ‘Ram Mandir’.

The Bharatiya Janata Party chief is expected to meet prominent saints and seers later at Kumbh Mela along with Adityanath, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and other leaders.

Earlier, Union minister Smriti Irani had also taken a dip in the Sangam on the first day of the Kumbh Mela. She had tweeted a picture captioned “Har Har Gange”.
Millions of devotees come to bathe during the Maha Kumbh which began on January 15 on Makar Sankranti and will end on March 4, on Mahashivratri.
