Land scam behind Ordinance: A Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Senior legislator A. Revanth Reddy on Monday alleged that the Chief Minister was issuing an ordinance, postponing the date from which the Prohibition of Transfer of Assigned Lands Act would be actionable in order to benefit a real estate giant who was a close associate of his.
Addressing a press conference, Mr Reddy said the real estate developer in question had acquired 4,000 acres of land, most of which were assigned lands, not be transferred other than to scheduled castes and tribes, in the Shamshabad and Maheswaram revenue mandals of Rangareddy district.
He said that because of the developer’s proximity to the CM, the government was planning to amend the Act, postponing the date from which it would be applicable, from 2007 to June 2, 2014, TS formation day. This would ensure that the developer would go scot-free despite having acquired land illegally.
Mr Reddy said that it was the biggest land scam in the state. He added that according to his information, when B.R. Meena, the principal secretary for reven-ue, objected to the amendment, the CM suddenly transferred him to a non-focal post. Mr Reddy said that he was prepared to face any action for levelling charges against the CM, but he wanted a high-level probe to be conducted on the matter so that the truth was revealed to the public.
