Hyderabad: The BJP has started an awareness programme under which farmers will be told about their rights and how the government is allegedly fooling them in the name name of crop loan waiver and Rythu Bandhu scheme.

Former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya said the farmer welfare schemes of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao were a “sham”. He said the government is waiving loans in instalments. Because of this, banks are levying interest on the remaining sum, which is burdening farmers.

He said farmers were not getting Rythu Bandhu payments on time which deprives them of input subsidy.

BJP spokesperson K. Krishna Saagar Rao said, “KCR may be a smart politician but is a failed administrator. Farmers couldn’t pay hefty interests that have piled up on the delayed loan repayments.”

Asked about this, a revenue department official said Rythu Bandhu was being efficiently. Farmer data had been provided to the Centre for PM-KISAN funds, he said.

A senior revenue official said, “For the Kharif crop we have disbursed money to 50 lakh farmers. We have already sent farmer data to the Centre for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.”

The Congress too has attacked Rythu Bandhu, calling it “landlord friendly”.

Congress leader Konda Vishweshwar Reddy said Rythu Bandhu has turned out to be cash-for-vote scheme. The former MP also said the farm loan waiver scheme was turning out to be an election promise.
