HYDERABAD: TS BJP president G. Kishan Reddy’s allegation that the Congress was conspiring to derail the Liberation Day celebration on September 17 was devoid of the truth, said TPCC senior vice-president G. Niranjan.

He said the BJP had no role in the merger of Hyderabad into the Indian Union and was BJP trying to project itself as having a patent over the celebrations on September 17. It was the Congress that played a pivotal role in the merger, he said.

“Under the leadership of Swami Ramananda Tirtha, P.V. Narasimha Rao, and Hayagrivachari, camps were organised in Vijayawada and Maharashtra to provide shelter to the people. It was the Police Action which annexed the State into the Indian Union.”

He said the BJP had shifted the venue of its September 17 fete from Warangal to the Parade Ground in Secunderabad to deny the Congress use of the venue.
