NEW DELHI: After the conclusion of the G20 summit, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge urged the Modi government to redirect its focus towards pressing domestic concerns such as inflation, unemployment, and the situation in Manipur. Kharge asserted that the people have initiated the path for the BJP-led government's potential departure in the 2024 general elections. In a Hindi post on X, Kharge criticised the government for the escalating prices of essential goods and the rise in unemployment. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to "conceal" the truth, saying that the public desires transparency rather than distractions.

Kharge stated, "Now that the G20 meeting is over, the Modi government should shift its attention to domestic issues. Inflation: The cost of a basic 'thali' increased by 24% in August. Unemployment: The country's unemployment rate stands at 8%. The future appears bleak for our youth."

Kharge also alleged a "flood of corruption under the mismanagement" of the Modi government. Prior to the summit, the Congress had accused the government of using the upcoming G20 meeting in India as an "election campaign" to divert attention from real issues.

Kharge further claimed in his extensive post on X, "Loot: Recent revelations have exposed the loot involving the Prime Minister's close associate. It has now been disclosed that former RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya resisted government pressure to transfer '3 lakh crore from the RBI treasury to the Modi government ahead of the 2019 elections." He also noted a resurgence of violence in Manipur over the past few days.

Earlier, the Congress had criticised the Centre for not extending an invitation to party president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, for the G20 dinner hosted by the President of India.
