Malappuram by-election: IUML candidate on Wednesday

MALAPPURAM: The IUML candidate for the by-election to the Malappuram Parliament constituency  will be announced on March 15, IUML state general secretary K.P.A. Majeed said  here on Friday. The announcement would be  made at Panakkad in the presence of IUML supremo Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal   soon after the state executive committee meeting, he added.

The party  would focus on the anti-minority stance of the centre during the campaign.  However,  he evaded questions on the possible candidates,  saying the party would decide it unanimously. According to sources,  former minister P.K Kunhalikutty MLA is  likely to be fielded for the by-election to be held on April 12.  The votes would be counted on April 17.  

The poll  notification  will be issued on March 16.  Nominations can be submitted till March 23.  The  last day for the withdrawal of the nominations is March 27. The voters included in the latest state electoral roll, which was published on January 14, 2017, can vote. The model code of conduct has  come into force in the district. The electioneering in  the constituency is all set to pick up momentum with only a month’s time left. The IUML  is spearheading the UDF campaign which was launched last week.
