Kurnool: Kurnool MP Dr S. Sanjeev Kumar has resigned both as a member of parliament and from the YSR Congress party.

Dr Sanjeev Kumar’s decision comes in the wake of ruling YSRC’s announcement that labour minister Gummanur Jayaram will be the party’s candidate from the Kurnool Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming elections.

The incumbent MP hails from the weavers' community. He has emphasised on the support he has in Yemmiganur, Adoni, Pathikonda, and Kurnool assembly constituencies as a member of the BC community as well as a doctor.

Dr Sanjeev Kumar acknowledged the failure of YSRC in utilising his role as an MP for the service of the people while he transitioned from his medical profession to politics. He cited the lack of a democratic approach within the ruling party, which hindered the fulfilment of his requirements. He revealed meeting the Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy twice during his visits, saying he respects the CM for his good leadership.

The MP said he decided to resign as MP as well as from YSRC after holding discussions with his followers, family members, and supporters. He aims to continue in politics for another 20 years, focusing on serving the western parts of Kurnool district.

There are rumours circulating on social media that Dr. Sanjeev Kumar will soon join the Telugu Desam. He has dismissed these reports as mere speculation.
